01 Art and Sport in Himalayas

02 Europe & World presentations in Slovak Schools

Sanjay Kumar an Indian tour operator bought the license for Monal Himalayan Public School/MHPS/ in Manali, India, from a school that was closing down, so he could  provide jobs for his wife Suman and other teachers from this remote area and also for better education for his son Himank and his friends. But this step was not sufficient for a good quality education and it was not able to prepare children for a career in their hometowns and villages. The rented classrooms are cold and dark, one room sometimes accommodates 3 classes - students of seventh, ninth and tenth grade. Sometimes, when it is not raining, the oldest students study outside. There is no gym, no hall. The students take exams sitting outside on the ground around the school. Our help was spontaneous. We started to bring equipment for different classes. For example, sports equipment. Together with the talented students we painted two classrooms and started to think about the future of the kids. We contacted Helena Roerich Art Academy in Naggar, which is run by indologist Alena Adamkova and we know that if the children would get the opportunity to attend this school, they can become good teachers in the future. Art Academy Education is licensed for 7 years and after finishing the exams and getting certificate the graduates can apply for teachers’ job in his/her field of expertise. They can become Music teachers, Art teachers, or Dance teachers and this is how they can preserve the traditions of Kullu Valley, Himachal Pradesh. First we sent the teachers from MHPS to see the Academy themselves. They came back and wanted to join the Art Schoolas well. Unfortunately there is an age limit. School year starts in March, but in October, during the Dushera Festival we sent nine talented students to join a painting competition in Naggar. Seven out of nine came back to Manali as winners. They learned a lot and wanted to learn more. In March we managed to organize a school bus for 27 MHPS children and 7 orphan kids from the village of Vashist to visit the Art Academy. The kids get scholarships, refreshments during the lunch, and their parents know that they are safe and doing something meaningful. You should see how they grow and inspire all the other kids at school. With your help we want to set scholarships for next year, so the kids will be able to choose from painting, woodcarving, classical dance, different music instruments and singing. Last year, we also test launched an "Education Tour 2011" with High School Student from Slovakia. For example, Paulina Liptakova spent 3 weeks of her summer holidays in Monal School introducing Europe, Slovakia, our habits, games, and songs to Indian students. She learned a lot from them and they became penpals. Together with Obchodna Akademia, Prievidza - High School in Slovakia, we want to continue in this successful project next year, and we are open to other families or schools to join us.

PROJECTS

The non profit organization SEEDS, together with the MEP, Peter Šťastný started to organize a series of presentations for Elementary Schools and High Schools in the begining of the year 2013. These presentations are refresh the classes of Social Studies, Geography and History, but contribute to find a different prespective on the role of Europe as a world politics player and the times we are living. Presentation of Center Right Values  and European Peoples Party as the representative of this values, is a base of these presentations.

In the these days, when the voters turnout is decreasing and populism is on the rise, the goal of this activity is to inspire a joung peoples interest in public affairs, in local communities and neighbourhood, our own country, but as well possition that Slovakia holds in Europe and Europe holds in the world.

What can Europe do for us, but more important what can we  - even as individuals can do for Europe? How the countries of Africa, Caribic and Pacific are conected to Europe? What can is Europe doing for these and other developing countries and what can be done by us? As Ronald Raegan once said: „We can not help to everyone, but everyone can help someone“. And this is something what our presentations aim at.

The presentations are prepared after a agreement with the teachers, according to the level of students knwledge and age. The mission is to bring knowledge and experience from the political life in a playful and entertainnig way to the students. Introduce their civic duties and rights in different way, than the ordinary lesson can show. Presentations can be combined with the lecture by other public figures: members of local governments, politilogist, international guests, journalist. Peter Šťastný has a welcome note either in person or via Google hangout tool.

A photograpic keynote presentation is a part of the lecture. Iteractivity is provided by discussion and games, when the students are pulled into the creative process of studing and understanding.

The best students are rewarded by small EPP gadgets and the best = most active classes through out the year are invited to Strasbourg by MEP, Peter Šťastný.

Monal Himalayan Public School is based in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India. The kids there get a very basic education and it is very difficult for them to get a job after they finish the school. Helena Roerich Art Academy was for a year providing a special education in arts to these children with the hope to receive a diploma after completing seven year study. Unfortunately the art school has not been reopened after winter holidays and several changes have been made in staff. Former Principal is a hard working man and except starting a legal fight for Helena Roerich Art Academy, he decided that the school will continue under new name and that the politics would not stop our chidren from receiving a quality education. New school will be opening their gates soon and children from Monal Himalayan Public School will be able to finish their studies.(August 2013)

Good news: Art Academy is formed and working. Kids are studing.(June 2014)

This year India Education Tour was a great success.

The team was build from teachers, artists who worked with Monal Himalayan Public School kids: Zuzana Tirpakova the teacher of dance and music and Daniel Brogyanyi a photographer and post-pop artist a fan and follower of Andy Warhol. The task was to lead the kids to public presentation and exhibition which happend on 28th August 2014. We had honourable guests from Naggar Art Academy, techers and parents. School also recieved a new carpet for the kids to perform on and many other small things for everyday education. I think we all learned something. Kids as well as teachers. See the Gallery for pictures and video.
